Top 10 Critieria for EAP Selection 1: How do they maintain confidentiality? The cornerstone of a good, reputable EAP is confidentiality. What measures do they take to ensure your employee's confidentiality is maintained? 2: Reputation. When choosing an EAP program, ask for references. Talk to other employers who use the EAP about their services. 3: Assess your needs. Does the EAP you are looking at provide all of the services you need? Such as crisis counseling, after hours access, management consultations, trauma interventions, drug/alcohol assessments, risk (violence) assessments, etc.? 4: How do they measure client and employer satisfaction? Do they provide any of this information to you? Do they regularly solicite feedback from you? 5: Does the EAP have licensed, experienced counselors with a variety of backgrounds, diversity and interests? 6: Does the EAP provide you with a point of contact who will handle your account? Each employer should have one primary contact that can handle everything for them - rather than talking to a different person each time. 7: Is the counseling staff employees of the EAP - or are they independent contactors that the EAP contracts with? 8: How does the EAP promote their services to your employees? This should include orientations, brochures, posters, etc. The scope of promotion will increase your utilization. 9: Will the EAP tailor a package to fit your company's needs? Not all companies need the same services - the EAP should be flexible. 10: Does the EAP provide you with utilization reports and regular feedback?
